“Timur Novikov. Object Zero”, directed by Alexander Shein, is dedicated to the artistic revolution of the 1980-s. The film is built around an artist and a key figure of St. Petersburg underground, a friend and associate of Viktor Tsoi, Sergey Kuryokhin, Sergey “Afrika” Bugayev, Georgy Guryanov and Vladislav Mamyshev- Monroe – TIMUR NOVIKOV.
In contrast to the official Soviet art, Timur Novikov managed to organise his own artistic space. He created the group ‘new artists’, which included young musicians, artists, composers and directors. They were united by the involvement with contemporary art, rock music, and the absolute inner
freedom. The works of the group ‘new artists’ quickly became famous in Europe and US, and such people as Andy Warhol, John Cage and Robert Rauschenberg entered the circle of friends of Timur Novikov.
Rare archive materials and original filming were used in the film ‘Timur Novikov. Zero Object’, with participation of Viktor Tsoi, Sergey Kuryokhin, Sergey “Afrika” Bugayev, Georgy Guryanov, Vladislav Mamyshev-Monroe and other Timur Novikov’s contemporaries.
